Will my microblading procedure hurt?
For people that have never gotten semi permanent makeup or tattoos, this is an extremely common question. We are going to unpack this and try to put your mind to rest.
Below is the transcript (edited to make me sound smarter) if you rather read.
Aloha,
My name is Hannah Maruyama. I am the owner and master artist, here, at YAMA Studios. A semi permanent makeup studio based, here, in Honolulu, HI.
I am here today to answer some questions that are commonly asked about microblading and semi permanent makeup.
Does microblading hurt?
Oh, wow! This one’s a doozy, huh?
I would say: yes and no.
There is definitely an amount of discomfort associated with someone putting a needle in you even if there is numbing. So, what I’ve heard clients say, is that if they’re very sensitive, they do experience a slight scratching sensation that they describe as feeling like somebody is scratching a sunburn.
I would say it’s more irritating than painful.
I did do microblading on myself and I have a fairly low pain tolerance and I didn’t find it unbearable. And I had to take much longer on myself than I would on a client because it’s hard to work in a mirror. So, I would say that if I can do it, I believe that you can do it, as well.
Procedure Length
Also, something that should be noted, and an answer to this question, is that the procedure itself doesn’t take two and half to three hours. The procedure itself takes about, I’d say on the liberal end, 40 minutes, and on the conservative end, I’d say about 25 to 30. Not rushing. Just as artists gain more experience they just get more adept and so they get a little bit faster.
So, if you’re going to somebody who has experience, then it’s very likely that your microblading procedure won’t take extremely long. The actual strokes. They spend more time putting pigment over your strokes just to make sure that you’ve got good color in there, but the actual microblading strokes are not going to take extremely long. So, that should be noted, as well.
And I don’t know about you, but I can deal with 30 minutes of scratching for possibly several years of having my eyebrows look really good when I wake up in the morning.
